Bike!Bike!Partout!

UPDATE: Les nouvelles dates pour Bike! Vélo Partout! 2021 sont vendredi 12 novembre - dimanche 14 novembre.

Google Traduction:

Bike!

You can propose workshops by registering here on www.bikebike.org. (After you register to attend Bike!Bike! Everywhere! 2021 you will be invited to list a workshop.)

Check out the Guide to Facilitating Bike!Bike! activities.

You can see past topics at these links: 2019 2018 2017 2015 2013 2012 2011

Topics of interest from the preliminary interest survey are listed here.

When proposing a workshop, include in the notes:
  • Your timezone
  • What time(s) of day you can present/facilitate
  • Expected length (between 30 and 90 minutes)
  • Whether it will be a presentation (you tell people things) or a discussion (you facilitate a conversation where everyone participates)
  • Maximum group size you are comfortable facilitating, if any
  • if your activity is a presentation/discussion/etc., can you confirm experienced interpreters who are comfortable using the zoom remote simultaneous interpretation (rsi) function? Check in with your communities :) If no one is available let us know and we'll look for interpreters

Quoi apporter?

Please consider eating before attending. Well-fed people are more forgiving! Consider also getting some fresh air and exercise, if possible!

Bénévolat

We need help with:

  • translation, interpretation, and language justice
  • facilitation
  • technical support
  • research
  • data entry
  • social media
  • and more!

Please email bikebikeeverywhere@gmail.com if you're interested! Consider including:

  • the language(s) you feel comfortable communicating in (speaking/reading/writing)
  • the ways you would like to collaborate/contribute
  • any ways you would like to be supported as we work together!

Translation & Language Justice

This is an international conference - more than ever because it is online! We will add more information about translation, interpretation, and language justice as it becomes available.

What is language justice?
Language justice is based in the idea that everyone has the right to communicate in the language in which we feel most comfortable, to understand and to be understood. Language justice is a shared commitment to creating bilingual/multilingual spaces where no language dominates over any other. We can use tools such as interpretation, the practice of a language being transferred into another language verbally/signed, and translation, the practice of a language being transferred into another language written, to build language justice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can/should I propose a workshop? How?

Yes! You can propose a workshop when you register (or later, at the Workshops page). Attendees can select the workshops they are most interested in, and we will take that into account when scheduling the events.

What kind of workshop should I propose?

That's up to you! We are expecting most workshops to be either "presentations" where one person or a few people do most of the talking, or "discussions" where a facilitator leads a conversation that everyone participates in. If you want to try another format, though, go for it! (Anyone want to do a text-based discussion via Discord?) There are lists of workshops from previous years: 2019 2018 2017 2016 2015 2013 2012 2011. Topics of interest from the preliminary interest survey are listed here.

Why is the registration process asking me about housing and food? I thought this was a virtual conference!

Yep. It's a virtual conference, but the website was designed for in-person events. Some of those questions are baked into the design, and we can't change them. Answer however you like - we'll disregard them. We cannot feed or house you on the internet. (-:

What time of day is the conference?

We will try to schedule events at various times so they're available to people with different schedules and in different time zones.

Why are you using Zoom/Discord?

We chose to prioritize Bike!Bike!'s tradition of Language Justice. We would love to use platforms that are open source and end-to-end encrypted, but we aren't aware of any open source software or end-to-end encrypted platforms with simultaneous interpretation features in the same league as Zoom. Discord has good machine translation features and a much friendlier user interface than any of the alternatives we have found. If you think there's another platform that would be a better fit, please email darin@darinwick.com - we'd love to hear about it!

Who is organizing this?

Volunteers & compañerxs (companions)! Most of us are or have been involved in bike collectives/other community bike organizations/cross-language projects. Bike Farm in Portland, OR is handling the finances.

How do I donate money?

You can donate to help fund Bike!Bike! Everywhere! when you register.

Why donate money?

We would love to pay translators and interpreters this year - translation and simultaneous interpretation are a lot of work and require some serious skill. If there are funds left over, they will be set aside for future Bike!Bike! events.

How do I volunteer?

In addition to facilitating or presenting a workshop, you can help with administrative logistics, tech support, planning, communications, translation, interpretation, and so much more! Please email bikebikeeverywhere@gmail.com and we can connect you with the to-do spreadsheets and the email work group listservs.
